Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Notary Public do?

A Notary Public verifies identities, witnesses signatures, administers oaths and affirmations, and certifies true copies of documents. Notary services help ensure documents are legally valid and accepted by courts, government agencies, and other organizations.

Do I need an appointment?

No, not necessarily. We welcome walk-in clients. However, if we are busy with others you will be required to wait.

You can make an appoint by calling, emailing us or using our online form.

What identification do I need to bring?

You must bring valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s licence, passport, or permanent resident card. The name on your ID must match the name on the document being notarized.

Do you prepare documents or provide legal advice?

No. A Notary Public cannot provide legal advice or draft legal documents unless they are also a lawyer. Clients must bring completed documents ready to be signed.

Can documents be signed in advance?

No. Documents must be signed in the presence of the Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths to be legally valid.

How long does the notarization process take?

Most notarizations take 10–15 minutes, depending on the type and number of documents.

Do I need a Notary Public or a lawyer?

In many cases, a Notary Public is all you need

For most everyday document needs, a Notary Public is faster, more affordable, and more convenient than a lawyer.

If you’re unsure, a Notary Public can review your document and let you know whether a lawyer is required before proceeding.

A Notary Public verifies identity, witnesses signatures, and ensures documents are properly executed. But does not provide legal advice.

Aftab Notary Public in Regina can help with:

  • Need a document notarized or witnessed
  • Need certified true copies of documents
  • Need an affidavit or statutory declaration sworn
  • Need a commissioner of oaths
  • Have immigration, government, or travel documents
  • Need signatures verified for use in Canada or internationally

You need a lawyer if you:

  • Need legal advice or representation
  • Are involved in a lawsuit or dispute
  • Need help with complex contracts
  • Are buying or selling real estate (legal conveyancing)
  • Need someone to draft legal agreements or interpret your legal rights

What types of documents can you notarize?

Common documents include affidavits, statutory declarations, certified true copies, consent to travel letters, letters of invitation, loan and mortgage documents, wills, and various government or immigration forms.

Can you notarize documents for immigration purposes?

Yes. We regularly notarize documents related to immigration, including affidavits, statutory declarations, consent letters, and letters of invitation required for visa and immigration applications.

Can you certify true copies of documents?

Yes. A Notary Public can certify true copies by comparing the original document to the copy and confirming it is a true and accurate reproduction.

Do you notarize documents in languages other than English?

Documents in another language may be notarized, but the signer must understand the document’s contents. In some cases, a certified translation may be required.

Are notarized documents valid outside Canada?

Yes, many notarized documents are valid internationally. However, some countries may require additional authentication or an apostille, depending on where the document will be used.
