The Wills Act, 1996 allows any competent adult to draft their own will. Whether typed or handwritten, without the need for a lawyer.
But, for the courts to recognize your will it must meet strict formal requirements. Including:
- proper signing procedures
- valid witnesses who are not beneficiaries.
Even small errors in execution can cause delays, challenges, or invalidation during probate.
